Landscape Photography: Achieving Technical Excellence and Crafting Artistically Expressive Images

Saturday, May 18th, 2024

9:00a.m. to 4:30p.m.”

Landscape Photography: “Achieving Technical Excellence and Crafting Artistically Expressive Images”

Join us for a great weekend with Doug and Laura Bennett as they share with us their techniques for achieving technical excellence and crafting artistically expressive landscape images.

What’s more, they will be sharing their photographic experiences from their many photographic ventures ranging from the UAE, Europe, South America, New Zealand, and Indonesia. What could be better for our theme of “A World of Destinations and Adventures!”

Instructors names: Doug & Laura Bennett, Colorado Springs, CO
Email address: BennettPhotography@ymail.com

Doug will speak to us about expressive landscape photography, i.e., how to craft images that will communicate and resonate with viewers and buyers. He will share elements of photographic craft and technique essential to landscape photography and to making high-quality large landscape prints for high-end sales and for PPA Competition entries.

In sharing these techniques, Doug will speak to the underlying “whys”.

Taking from their Texas School program, Doug will share many techniques and approaches essential to communicating emotions and artistic vision in landscape images.

Great landscape photography is about making images that connect with viewers making them feel something about the subject.

Doug will delve into “Dynamic Symmetry” sharing knowledge on how to design and compose your images. He will delve even deeper into composition outlining and demonstrating various visual transitions essential to landscape photography imagery to include the most important transition of all, the “progression of blacks”.

You’ll learn and will understand why the rule-of-thirds is not the approach Doug and Laura take in crafting their award-winning landscape.

Come find out all about that!

Doug Bennett has been a member of PPA since 2011. He earned his Master’s Degree in 2015 along with his Craftsman Degree and his first Imaging Excellence Award in 2016.

He achieved his second Imaging Excellence Award in 2021. He is a five-time Diamond Photographer of Year, Platinum Photographer of the Year, and a two-time Gold Photographer of the Year. Lastly, Doug is a two-time Grand Imaging Award Finalist finishing 1st in 2017 and 2nd in 2015 in the Landscape/Nature Category. In 2022, Doug achieved his ASP Fellowship.

Laura Bennett most notably is the 2023 World Photographic Cup Winner, Gold Medal in the Landscape Category.

A PPA member since 2012, earned her Master’s Degree in 2015, Craftsman Degree in 2017, and her first Imaging Excellence Award in 2018 and her second Imaging Excellence Bar in 2022. About Denise:

Denise has been a professional photographer since 1988.

Growing up, there were only ever two things I wanted to do in life, to be a mom and be a photographer. I won, I got both! But seriously, I knew in first grade that I wanted to be a photographer.

I love summer and flip flops, fancy dresses, and high heels. I am a girly girl and can name just about every Miss America (in order!).

But… I am also a tom-boy who LOVES football, baseball, Indy Cars, and heavy metal (I’m a life-long Cubs and Bears fan, I kiss the bricks at Indy every May and I’ve seen Metallica 16 times!). Despite the fact that most people call me crazy, I’m an avid runner and always training for something. If you see me out running in the early morning hours, make sure you honk and wave hi! I am married to my high school sweetheart and the mom of three amazing kids.

Photography is a way of life for me. I firmly believe that God has blessed me many times over with the gift of photography and how he has made me to see things. I have a strong Christian faith and give Him all the glory for my abilities and blessings.

I see things differently than most, and I’m always looking for the perfect light. My family will tell you how every family vacation gets turned into our own private photo shoot (a fact that they don’t always enjoy). I like to have fun, and I like to laugh, so be prepared to have a great time during your session! I tell people all the time that I have the best job in the world, and I really believe that I do!
