WPPA 2024 Image Judging and more along with the WPPA 2024 State Awards and Rules Have Changed.

2.27.2024
WPPA State Award Sponsor – Update Notice:

AIM is no longer a  WPPA Member State Award Sponsor. They used to sponsor the highest-scoring Animal Image, which was a WPPA Member State Award and this was listed in our 2024 WPPA Competition Rules.

We do not have a different sponsor to take the place of AIM,  so this award is discontinued for 2024.  This was WPPA  Member State Award.

AIM is no longer an organization. A new PPA Network Partner has formed out of the AIM organization called International Society of Animal Photographers, that organization only sponsors their own Image Competition Awards.

It is your responsibility to read them along with any updates before you enter WPPA Image Judging and More.

Kari Douma

M.Photog. IPC Juror

I am Kari… a wife, a mother, and a photographer.  I love people, their stories, and everything that makes us special and unique from each other.

Why do I photograph people?   I did not choose to be a photographer, it chose me.  I love people, new beginnings, and telling stories through beautiful imagery.  Weddings are one of the most joyous days of our lives.  Newborns are so innocent, sweet and precious.  Children and families are engaging, and seniors are unique and inspiring.   I love to build lasting relationships with my clients so what ever their photographic needs are, I create images to help them document all stages of life.  Over the years my seniors have graduated, have gotten engaged and become brides.  My brides have become mothers, and their mothers have become grandmothers… It’s a blessing and a privilege to journey alongside my clients over the years as their families grow!

I am more than a “friend with a nice camera.”  In this ever changing industry, I am always dedicated to learning and growth in my craft.  In 2010 I became a Certified Professional Photographer and in 2012 I earned my Master of Photography degree from the Professional Photographers of America.  The Professional Photographers of Michigan has named me “Michigan Photographer of the Year” multiple times.  Since photography is not just my business, but also my passion, I travel around the country teaching other photographers and judging at professional photography image competitions.

Rick Avalos

M.Photog.Cr., CPP, IPC Juror

Rick Avalos has been practicing his craft for 34 years, he has lectured in Mexico and Spain and been honored by both his professional organizations and his fellow photographers.

Rick’s images have received numerous Kodak Gallery Awards and Fuji Masterpiece Awards, and have been displayed at Disney’s EPCOT Center, at Photokina in Cologne, Germany, and at the Pacific Rim International Exhibition in Seoul, South Korea.

In 1986, Rick was Certified by the PPA and he received his Master of Photography in 1992. In 1994, he earned his Photo-graphic Craftsman Degree and he also holds the Photographic and Educational Fellowship Degrees from the Professional Photographers of Colorado.

He received the coveted National Award from the Professional Photographers of Colorado and the Duncan McNab Service Award from the Rocky Mountain Professional Photographers Association.

Rick is an IPC PPA judge that is committed to the continued education of photographers that enter into image competitions.

On the fourth Thursday of each month, (January – October), Rick, along with Jeff, and a guest will offer valuable information and help you with your images in a positive and constructive atmosphere. Receiving critiques on your photographs is a valuable learning experience. He offers constructive criticism and valuable insights that will help you see your work from a different perspective, help you identify areas that can be improved, and praise you for your talents. A critique can help you grow as a photographer and an artist, and help you develop your own unique style. It’s important to approach the critique process with an open mind and not take negative feedback personally. Critiques are not an insult to you or your art.
